Our annual Care Day took place on Thursday, September 8th, during National Suicide Prevention Week. WSD Students, Staff, and Community were encouraged to wear Teal and Purple to show support.
The school with the most participants wearing teal and purple during Care Day won a popcorn party on behalf of the student support team and for the 2nd year in a row Saddle Mountain Elementary School was the winner. Congratulations SME! Thank you to everyone for participating and showing your support and that you care.
Our school counselors had lessons and activities to support suicide prevention and focused on caring and kindness. These activities will continue to happen throughout the rest of the month.
Information from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the organization that founded National Suicide Prevention Month:
“Suicide prevention is important every day of the year. National Suicide Prevention Month gives us an opportunity to shine a special, encouraging light on this topic that affects us all and send a clear, hopeful message that help is available, and suicide can be prevented.”
A great way for anyone to get involved is to choose one day to perform five acts of kindness! Helping someone with a task, bringing snacks for your coworkers, giving a meaningful compliment, or giving a small gift are all great examples.
