Thanks to the IMLS American Rescue Plan grant, our elementary library staff have been hard at work removing older and damaged books from their collection. 🔁 📚 We are also switching the collection around for easier browsability by genrefying the collection. Instead of searching for books based on the author’s last name, students can now look for books based on what the book is about like mystery, fantasy, fun facts, and more. 👀 Based on previous grants awarded to our elementaries and looking at gaps in our collections, the IMLS grant purchased $15,000 worth of new books for our three elementary schools. We are working hard to get these books out in circulation with the goal of having them out by the end of April. 📚📚📚📚📚📚 Gracias a la beca del Plan de Rescate Estadounidense de IMLS, el personal de la biblioteca de primaria ha trabajado arduamente para eliminar libros viejos y dañados de su colección. 🔁 📚 También estamos cambiando la colección para facilitar la navegación mediante la clasificación por géneros de la colección. We’ve had a few phone calls to the District Office from Mattawa-area residents saying, “they’ve not received their ballots in the mail yet” for the Tuesday, April 26 election. This seems to be limited to voters that have previously had a Mattawa Post Office Box. We’ve reached out to Grant County Elections for any information. They’ve shared that all ballots were mailed at the beginning of April, and they have had some ballots returned, but will not re-mail them due to the election being this TUESDAY. This is incredibly disappointing to hear, as we have worked so hard over the last 8 weeks to share WSD levy information with our voters, as well as help register citizens to vote. If you have not received your ballots Grant County Elections will be allowing us to pick up ballots from their Ephrata office. We will need your name or the names of family members that have not received their ballots. Please EMAIL OR CALL the district office with your name and family member names, and we will get your ballots to you in time to vote. Please call or email by Monday, April 25th by 9:00 AM. Wahluke Junior High and Wahluke High School students are participating in an Outdoor Career Day event on Friday morning during school hours. We want to inform students, staff, parents, and the community at large that two helicopters will be arriving in the morning. We will also have the Washington State Patrol and a K-9 Deputy on-site as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation. THANK YOU to the WHS Soccer Team for volunteering and cleaning up our community for the City of Mattawa Annual Spring Clean-up event. Thanks to the IMLS American Rescue Plan grant a complete overhaul of the junior high library has begun. In April, the library’s book collection was reviewed with old and damaged books were removed and $23,000 worth of new books were added. The collection was also weeded for easier browsability and students can now officially check out books for the first time since 2016. The Junior high also formed a design committee of students and staff that is working to recreate the space including choosing a new color palette to paint the library and redesigning the layout of the space. These design changes will happen over the summer and will welcome students and staff on the first day of the 2022-23 school year. 📚☀️🎉📚☀️ Gracias a la subvención del Plan de Rescate Estadounidense de IMLS, se ha iniciado una revisión completa de la biblioteca de la secundaria. Did you notice the new look? 👀 Check out one of the projects the District's Maintenance Team did over spring break. They added rubber to our elementary playgrounds to keep up with safety standards. This year we have worked hard to create our first-ever Preschool Library. This library will hold a collection of books that our preschool teachers can use with their classes as well as a place where parents can come to check out books to read to their children at home. Almost every book purchased is bilingual in Spanish & English. We hope this library will support our goals toward early literacy and creating a love of reading starting at a young age. We can’t wait to have the books out in circulation starting in the 2022-23 school year. 📚💛📚👏🏽📚 Este año hemos trabajado duro para crear nuestra primera biblioteca preescolar. We are excited to offer digital books available to all staff and students!! Students are able to check out eBooks and Audiobooks from their school or personal devices with their Wahluke log in and can even access books they’ve checked out without internet access. In addition, NCW libraries agreed to open their collection up to area schools. Students are now able to check out digital books from the NCW libraries collection without a library card using their Wahluke credentials. The Sora app is available as a free app or can be opened in the web browser. This is the perfect opportunity to promote reading among our students no matter where they are and even when the libraries are closed. 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 ¡Estamos emocionados de ofrecer libros digitales disponibles para todo el personal y los estudiantes!
